How well do you know your aquatic critters? - JasonN - 03-16-2004 I made up a neat little quiz to see how well most people know their bugs. (Well, they're not all technically bugs, which is why I say critters!) Post your guesses before you peek at the answers... let's see who does best. ![]() [center] 1: (common or scientific name for the family) ![]() 2: (common name for the order and family, scientific name for the genus) ![]() 3: (common and scientific name for the order) ![]() 4: (common name for the family, scientific name for the species) ![]() 5: (common and scientific name for the species) ![]() 6: (common name for the family, scientific name for the genus) ![]() 7: (common name for the order, scientific name for the family) ![]() 8: (common and scientific name for the family) ![]() 9: (common and scientific name for the family) ![]() 10: (common and scientific name for the suborder) ![]() 11: (common name for the order, scientific name for the genus) ![]() 12: (common and scientific name for the family) ![]() 13: (common and scientific name for the family) ![]() 14: (common name for the order, common and scientific name for the species) ![]() 15: (common name for the family, scientific name for the species) ![]() 16: (common name for the order, common and scientific name for the species) ![]() 17: (common and scientific name for the family) ![]() 18: (common and scientific name for the order) ![]() 19: (common name for the order, scientific name for the species) ![]() 20: (common and scientific name for the suborder) ![]() [/center] When you're done guessing see how well you did here: http://www.troutnut.com/otherpics/quiz1/answers.html Let me know if you'd like to see more of these... I could cook up a pretty tough all-mayfly quiz if people want to try their hand at that. ![]() [signature] Re: [JasonN] How well do you know your aquatic critters? - JapanRon - 03-16-2004 Hey there JasonN, Welcome to BFT if I've not said so already. I'm guessing all those bugs are for the fishies. I'm thinking if I was a fish, I'd be a vegetarian. Yech!! JapanRon [signature] Re: [JasonN] How well do you know your aquatic critters? - Dryrod - 03-16-2004 [ ![]() Good pop quiz. However it is kind of long. We didn't have that many species to identify when I took microbacteriaology [study of microbes instead of bugs] when I was in college. Well the first one looks like a praying mantis, then you have some mayflys, waterbugs, hellgiammites caddisflys and snoreeeeee! Couldn't stay awake that long. Here in SOCA we don't have any bugs to mess with. Well I will take that back since the fire ants and african bees snuck in during the night. Originally I am not from Calif. Need I say more. I guess man is his own worse enemy. [signature] Re: [JasonN] How well do you know your aquatic critters? - tkishkape - 03-17-2004 [ ![]() I'm glad we don't have them ugly critters in Oklahoma! I saw one of the first one that you posted here this winter. It popped up through my son's ice hole when he was fishing. He asked me what it was. I had no clue. Thought it resembled one of those walking sticks...lol. It is nice to have something different for a change of pace. It is also nice to know what the names of some of our little critters are that the fish are biting on. [signature] Re: [JasonN] How well do you know your aquatic critters? - davetclown - 03-17-2004 I hear that, the snow is falling here as well in south east detroit. I am on the West side of the SFV. We get some scorchers out here too. I am now fine tuning my pressure sensor for my float tube so that it will automatically control the air pressure for these hot days. I already had it set for inflation in the cold, now I have to set it for deflation in the heat. [signature] Re: [JasonN] How well do you know your aquatic critters? - DanielJRioux - 03-18-2004 Hey, I know their names, collectively they are known as FISH BAIT! [signature] Re: [JasonN] How well do you know your aquatic critters? - JasonN - 04-09-2004 Patches, we've STILL got frickin' snow. It's crazy. Almost mid-April and we've got highs of 33 this weekend! ![]() [signature] |
