GREAT LAKES & NATURAL RESOURCES CAMP - davetclown - 03-08-2004 4-H GREAT LAKES & NATURAL RESOURCES CAMP AUGUST 1 to 7, 2004 4-H Great Lakes Natural Resources Camp is a great opportunity for teens who are interested in exploring and learning about Michigan's natural resources, wildlife and the great outdoors. Campers from all over Michigan will spend seven days at Camp Chickagami experiencing unique opportunities such as exploring the dunes, hiking through forests and wading in wetlands, as well as participating in camp activities like swimming, fishing and boating. Camp Chickagami is on the shore of Lake Huron between Rogers City and Alpena. Who Can Attend? Teens who are aged 13 to 15 are eligible to participate. Participants must be 13 by July 1, 2004. You do NOT need to be a 4-H member to attend. Campers entering 8th grade in fall 2004 can be considered for a $2,000 MSU pre-college program scholarship. The Pre-College Achievement Scholarship will be applied toward the student's first year at MSU as a degree-seeking student. For more information on this scholarship opportunity, visit <[#0000ff]http://www.msue.msu.edu/cyf/youth/scholar.html[/#0000ff]>. How Much Does It Cost? The camper fee is only $230 a person, but the "real" cost of camp is nearly $400 per person. The cost includes meals, lodging, T-shirt, program and activity fees. The Michigan 4-H Foundation and its donors, Michigan Sea Grant and MSU Extension generously offset approximately 40 percent of the camp costs per camper! Some additional scholarship funds are also available. To apply, contact your local MSU Extension office for an application packet. Enrollment is limited so don't delay! Applications and deposits are due to your county office by April 30, 2004.
