Lost Creek 8/11 - Jig-fisher - 08-13-2025
Took my dad up to Lost Creek Monday morning. Saw several deer, one big buck, and 3 elk with one nice bull on the way in. It was 41 degrees at launch around 645 am. It was slow fishing. Went through many different dodger combos but orange worked best. You trollers know that sometimes you have one rod that seems to catch all the fish, it was like that. One rod caught well over 50% of the fish. Only one koke, like 7", some small cutts, rainbows and tiger trout. Trolled all over, not much action.
We decided to stop and fish for chubs so I could replenish my supply. Jig head tipped with a piece of crawler, with a bait hook about 12" above it worked great for me. My dad had a single jig, but with a small plastic body tipped with crawler. We put a lot of chubs in the boat, but we did good on some bigger trout. I caught a 17" cutt, and my dad caught 7 nice trout up to 16". Mostly nice rainbows. Go figure, trolling didn't produce much, but jigging was the ticket.
Dad doesn't get out much so we had a good time.

In what depth of water were your jigging?

We were in 25'. Large schools of chubs would come through about every 5 minutes or so.

Good on you Paul for getting your dad out, I remember those trips with my dad, the get away and just catching a fish always put a
on his face. Hopefully with the missed year in koke plants this year is just the results of that and better fishing is coming on the lake.

Nice detailed report Paul, sounds like a fun trip, even if the trolling didn't produce much. Love it when you can catch the chubs and trout with the same methods.

Thanks for the report. Can I catch the chubs from shore or do I need to pull my boat up there? Can I even launch a 19 ft boat at Lost Creek?

I'm sure you can from shore, but I've always done it from the boat. I remember Cowboypirate posting he has done it from shore in the past. You can easily launch your 19' boat. Mine is 18' and have had no issues. There is a funky turn at the top of the ramp, but if you're comfortable backing a trailer you can maneuver it just fine. Small courtesy dock is there as well.

I've caught chubs right by the boat launch from shore. Just tip a hook with a little nightcrawler and you can't keep them off. That's about the same area the Cowboypirate told me to fish for them.
