How to get info when the site is down? - gmwahl - 07-27-2025 Hey y'all, If BFT is going to be down again while getting sorted out, is there a Facebook page that we can get on and use as a backup while the new server is being put into operation? At the very least, if one of the FB groups, like Utah anglers (or something equivalent) can be used to let us know the progress, that would be very helpful. Mike RE: How to get info when the site is down? - RockyRaab2 - 07-27-2025 I for one have never been and refuse to go to FacePlant. I value my personal data far too much. I do bemoan the fact that we won't have a good source of scuttlebutt and a place to kibbutz with cronies. RE: How to get info when the site is down? - dubob - 07-27-2025 A few of the BFT members (like me) have found a sister site - Utah Wildlife Network (UWN). While not nearly as popular as BFT, the UWN folks do keep a respectful conversation going with respect to Utah fishing and hunting activities. I've been a member over there since Sep 2007. You'll recognize a few of us BFT members over there. It is more of a backup to BFT as opposed to being a replacement. If you haven't discovered it yet, you might want to check it out while BFT searches for a more permanent solution to its present difficulties. ![]() As to fakebook, there are a few groups that I'm a member on that are 'Utah' oriented. Utah Ice Fishing Fanatics Utah Ice Fishing Group Flaming Gorge Fishing Utah Waterfowl Association Utah Waterfowl Hunters While I respect Rocky's concerns about privacy, some of the fakebook groups I am a member of are the only source of useful information for products and services I use daily. As with almost all facets of life today, there are risks associated with using fakebook, but I accept those risks in order to gain access to useful information. YMMV! Guess we should try it and see what happens, that could be a good backup plan, when the site goes down again. I will definitely go there and see if we can use that to get info to each other. Actually, I just checked out the Facebook page and it appears to be dead. Last post looked like 2 or more years ago? I'll give it a try later today and see what happens. RE: How to get info when the site is down? - RockyRaab2 - 07-28-2025 I don't know if this is the site that dubob meant, but I found this one, and it has fishing forums... https://www.utahwildlife.net/ Correction - just saw dubob's name there so it must be the one. Fingers, toes, and eyes all crossed hoping that BFT eventually comes back. But not overly confident. It's okay but I don't visit it very often. I checked to see if any of the people who used BFT would chime in but the only one that I saw was Dubob but like he posted he's been on there about as long as I have. Actually, there are only a handful of people who post very often. Another forum to try would be 'Utah Flyway Forum | Refuge Forums'. Dubob is a member on that board too. I was a mod there for 10 years but it almost died quite a number of years ago. It has less traffic than the Wildlife forum but is a waterfowl forum. It used to really hum years ago but different social media forums took over the traffic. However, it does have a 'Fishing forum' among many others. RE: How to get info when the site is down? - JazzyM - 07-29-2025 I’m on the UWF but basically lurking cause I just don’t have much to say. It is much less personal, has less information and the only way to really find out about places is to join several groups, each for a different place. Willard, Rockport, Echo, Jordanelle, Utah Lake All different groups that I belong to so that I see reports from them all. There is one group, Utah Anglers Report that is not bad. Mainly people showing photos of them with their fish. There is one group I see that K-2 Musky posted on this spring when the walleye fishing was hot. Outside of that, I guess it is this time, Gone Forever. Tube Dude, I thought you had been on this before 2002, I remember Kent as the Main Mod, ups and downs, parties at Yuba, Utah Lake, Willard...I will for sure miss BigFishTackle.com. Maybe we can get permission to use the name on FB or start our own group. It can be made private, members only. Wouldn't be to much different than what we have here now. Rocky and others who refuse, I'm not sure what to say. We will see what comes back of BFT. RE: How to get info when the site is down? - SkunkedAgain - 07-29-2025 Thanks Mike for the proactive steps, I tied a post on the UWF site, it's a little clunky, but it worked... No worse than this version of BFT has been... Hope BFT can find a new home that will be better, but if not, it will be good to still have a spot we can find each other and keep up with the fish tales... Thanks Jeff RE: How to get info when the site is down? - JazzyM - 07-29-2025 Looked good to me. And I even get notifications for the threads I subscribed to ![]() RE: How to get info when the site is down? - gmwahl - 07-29-2025 (07-29-2025, 06:17 PM)SkunkedAgain Wrote: Thanks Mike for the proactive steps, I tied a post on the UWF site, it's a little clunky, but it worked... Thanks Jeff Hey Jeff, I just joined UWF, so I can contribute and chime in from time to time. I hope it works OK if BFT dies. So I just created a fake profile with an email address I don't use for anything else. Then I joined the all Utah fishing groups I could find. RE: How to get info when the site is down? - BearLakeFishGuy - 07-31-2025 I have been on the wildlife.net site and it is a good replacement for BFT, if BFT goes down permanently. Most people go the "fishing trip reports" tab/area. I used my same username over there, as has most of the BFT folks. Come on over. to utahwildlife.net |
