SOUP BAKED FISH - TubeDude - 06-25-2025

There has been some chatter on the boards about good recipes for wiper, walleye and other fish with big fillets.  I had a request to repost my old writeup on "Soup Baking".  But, alas, it somehow got lost during my computer cleanup a while back.  So I put together another quickie.  Hope it helps someone.

Pat , great refresher as per your usual! I Remember doing fish that way back in our “prior” times chasing various finny critters around the state back in the 80’s!! One good addition if desired is some grated cheese on top for the last few minutes of baking!!! Yumm yumm!!

I can’t wait to try this.
Thanks Pat.

RE: SOUP BAKED FISH plus FISH CHILI - TubeDude - 06-26-2025

Almost forgot this other gem...fish chili.  Started making it to "enhance" stronger and coarser fillets...like from catfish.  But have since discovered it is a winner with wipers too.  And if you don't want to go through all the muss and fuss of making chili, just pour a can of Nalleys with cheese over the fillets and hit the heat.

Just what I need - ANOTHER fish recipe.  Thanks Pat.  I'll be putting some perch filets in it very soon.  I'm partial to Cream of Mushroom with just a touch of cajon spice.   Big Grin

Don't forget all the perch chowder we have served up to our groups on the ice over the years.  That is made with cream of potato soup.  Goes down real good when heated up on the ice after a morning of "cold-footin'".

Lotsa good memories.  And I drool over your current reports.  Doin' good.  How does Bella like the new boat?

RE: SOUP BAKED FISH - wiperhunter2 - 06-27-2025

After eating your pig out perch chowder many times, I prefer that over most soups but the baked fish sounds good too, I will be giving it a try for sure, thanks Pat

I was really impressed with Bella's passion for and abilities at fetchin'...in or out of the water.  She's a goodun.  Would like to see her again but my two current furry girlfriends (my daughter's dogs) might get jealous.

The black girl and the redhead think so.  Not many guys my age can still attract the hotties like those two.  Dogs are good people...maybe better than people.

RE: SOUP BAKED FISH - RockyRaab2 - 06-28-2025

Pat, it's a relief to see a fish soup/stew dish with no tomatoes or potatoes. As you know, those of us with kidney issues have to avoid both and recipes with neither are rare indeed. Wife says she's going to make that with some cod.

(Was in a diner the other day and asked if I could substitute for fries. Waitress said, "Sure. You want mashed, tots, hash browns or country fried?" Had to explain that I can't have POTATO.)

Yep.  Growin' old ain't fer sissies.  Sometimes ya gotta slap yerself around and make yerself follow doc's orders.  On the other hand, there's the question of whether it is better to die a lingering death...without all the stuff you like...or to just crash on through on an early bird flight due to self destruction.

I like the old joke about the guy and his wife who lived a long healthy life...due to his wife carefully avoiding all the "good stuff" in their menus.  When they both were killed at the same time in an auto accident they were given a tour of "the other side".  The guy was informed that he could smoke, drink and eat whatever and whenever he wanted...because there was no longer any concern for earthly ailments.  And when he found he could also go fishing anywhere and any time...for the biggest fish he'd ever seen...he began screaming at his wife.  "We coulda been up here 20 years ago."

You're the perfect example...for all us geezers.  You've been through a lot and you have enough replacement parts to qualify as the bionic fudd.  How's everything working now?  And how do you like the new boat so far?

The shoulder is healing - SLOWLY - and I'm able to shoot Trap, Skeet, & Sporting Clays with a 12 Gauge up to 200 rounds in a day.  The new boat is getting broke in properly with some fish visiting the livewell on occasion.  Still learning the ins & outs of the Garmin sonar and MK Ulterra Quest trolling motor.  I'm getting 4 to 5 trips out of the Li Time lithium, 140aH batteries before needing to charge them up again.  Let me know if you get to a point where you'd like to come for a ride along and catch a fish or three.  Anyplace but Utah Lake will be fine with me.

RE: SOUP BAKED FISH - SkunkedAgain - 06-30-2025

Hey Pat, thanks for a couple new additions to my collection of recipes... You're chowder is still one of my favorites... I'll have to try the baked one... Got a smallie last weekend that swallowed it too deep and ended up volunteering for dinner, think I'll give it a try... Thanks Jeff
