I am so far behind. Got my students building cookie done cedar planting boxes and a chicken coop. Hope to get them in next week

It's colder at your elevation, so it's not surprising but I'm sure you will get it going soon. Don't you usually wait until May 15 or so to plant?

15th for the warmer stuff but I plant some cold Season stuff around later April and early may. My main issue is a big redo of the yard garden area and just not making good progress on it. Seems I am awful fond of more frequent breaks and a cold glass of lemonade these days than my shovel.

I hear you there, just the normal part of getting older. I have a problem of getting started on tasks as well.

We tend to wait until AFTER Mother's day otherwise we end up having to move or cover stuff anytime the forecast is for cooler than 40 as we get chillier temp and even frosts at 37. We just don't fight getting it done too soon.  We could start things in the greenhouse earlier but this year we were completing a few more wood and epoxy resin crafts we've been working on over the winter.

Understandable, I just remember from years past you guys started earlier, at least in your GH and year long in your hydroponic garden indoors. I hope that is still working out for you guys?

Hydroponics been gardening all winter, I'll take some pics and get a post set up. It's so nice to grow lettuces, spinach and broccoli raab for salads with small tomatoes for salads and not worry about bugs or dirt or temperatures!

Your garden is really taking off for sure. Do you use that kale in salads or cook it as is? Does it freeze well for longer keeping? I tried freezing bok choy to use in stir-fries but it just wanted to crumble too much so we just stopped growing it?

No, we boil it and eat it with the rest of our veggies but at the end of the season we will blanch, whatever we can't eat but it usually doesn't last long, because we eat it pretty fast

Yes your tops sure made those plants jump up, mine are growing but need some warm weather to really take off. As I won’t have the patio remodel to deal with next year I’ll have to put some covers together so I can start the plants earlier again. The old raised beds had covers and it really helped

Yes your tops sure made those plants jump up, mine are growing but need some warm weather to really take off. As I won’t have the patio remodel to deal with next year I’ll have to put some covers together so I can start the plants earlier again. The old raised beds had covers and it really helped

Was weeding the carrots and radishes, when I noticed this one, it has been a while since we have grown radishes, didn't remember they grew so fast. Anyone have any thoughts about radishes that aren't so strong tasting, almost hot? My wife doesn't care for them.

New pics from garden, lots of growth, since the last ones. Now getting snow pea pods, radish, kale.and strawberries. Zucchini are starting to flower, so it won't be long now.

It's amazing how fast my garden is growing, now that this heat wave is here, got our first zucchini today and I have several more that will be much bigger in a few days. Snow pea pods are really coming on too.

My garden is really taking off, here are my latest pics.
Grow Box #1 has water melon and cantaloupe plants

Garden looks great! Mine is just starting to go a bit, couple tomatoes really struggling , yet the others are fine think I got a couple bad plants. I didn’t add enough new additives or soil and have worn it out a bit. Little brother had a bunch of “black soil” and installed raised beds, he planted maybe 2 weeks before me l, but his garden is growing crazy good, he has beets big enough to harvest already with greens that are bigger better than mine will be in September.
Next year I’m raising my garden beds and bringing in all new garden soil!!
These are pics of his from over a week ago! I won’t put in a pic of mine ??

His garden looks great, sorry to hear yours isn't doing as well. One thing I do every year is, in the Fall, after the garden is done, I dig one foot down, put in a layer of leaves, put the dirt back over the leaves and let them decompose during the Winter. Then in the Spring, as soon as the ground thaws, I dig up the ground again and put in a layer of cow manure and cover it again with the dirt I took out. I've been doing this for over 40 years now and it works great.
