Ideal Ice condition - perfect day - Fishhound - 11-15-2019
Headed up to Trial lake to enjoy what looked to be a great forcast for fishing and weather - often those two coincide. A big moon, just barely off full setting the stage and not at all dampening my anticipation of a very fine outing.
The view, as expected, was large and all but empty. Starting out I thought I would be greeted by bitter cold and had geared up for that with appropriate clothing for that elevation. I was pleasantly surprised to find the temperature quite agreeable and immediately shed the outer shell and tossed the gloves in the sled.
I was already rigged for the fish I figured to catch and went right at it. The fishing was fast and furious from the get go and continued to be constant action all day. It seemed like I ended up catching every thing the lake had swimming. I'm not sure what happened to the Grayling - not photogenic I guess. Attached are a few of the other trouts I entertained.
I didn't even have time to eat lunch and barely would get a few sips of my hot beverage before it went cold. My thermos was 3/4 full for the drive home.
Now the part that made it ideal and a perfect day. I had the whole lake to myself. There was no-one there but me. The last time that happened was many years ago when I had to ski in several miles to enjoy the bliss of solitude of a popular mountain lake.
All fish were released alive and freely swimming.

awesome! I'm hoping to get up there tomorrow, but I doubt it'll be empty.
Do you still have to buy a recreation pass to park a vehicle up there during the winter months?

You do know even when parking fills up near Trial, there are several easy to access lakes nearby that are usually fast fishing in November.

I should'a called and invited you, but then you would'a caught all them fish and I would'a got none. I would'a spent the day being a tourist and doing nothing but sight seeing.

Most of the rigs there yesterday parked down near the lake and the parking lot was pretty empty. And there weren't as many fishing as there were last Saturday. But you're right--Moosehorn and Mirror are two other lakes available now.
