The salmon trip is starting out well. Rolling anchovies at the mouth, looks like the run is just starting so hopefully the action picks up over the next 12 days

Day 2 was a long day with a couple of hits that didn’t stick but we started marking more fish. Today we got 1 on the 1st pass and then had to wait for the tide to change and landed 2 more and lost 2. Ended up with a 5 gallon bucket of fillets, next 5 days should hopefully really get going with the full moon and fish moving into the system. Great time so far with good friends.

Roger it’s worth the trip but you need a small boat with tiller steer due to the crowds and tight quarters

No guide, we are rolling anchovies on what is called a rouge river rig with a 3 oz weight. All rigs are in the boat but I’ll take pics tomorrow

My son lives in Portland and I keep talking about going fishing. Looking for salmon and walleye on the Columbia and on the rouge.

They use a different set up here then on the Columbia/buoy 10 area, have no idea why the regular salmon gear doesn’t work here but it doesn’t, guess it’s the old saying when in Rome.........

Here’s the rigs we are using. Spreader with a 14-16” drop for the weight, weights here we use 2-4oz, about a 5’ leader for the bait. On the Columbia weights are 8oz and bigger, 18” leader to a triangle flasher or big 11” flasher and the about a 3’ leader for bait or hardware

So they are kings in your photo's correct? Seems like the fresh (still silver and shiny) fish caught in Oregon and Washington look a little different than the ones we caught in Alaska (up the rivers turning red). Sure looks like fun, appreciate you sharing your trip with us... J

Thanks for sharing, makes me home sick. I grew up along the Rogue, about the middle of the river. I fish out of Gold beach when I can, but in the ocean. My boat is a bit big for the bay.
Glad you are getting some, it sounds like a great trip! The halibut in my picture came out of Gold Beach.

Nice butt, I really wish I had brought my big boat out, tuna were 12 miles out and the guys going for them were stacking them up. Looks like some great areas out in the big blue to fish for halibut

Yea but with all the warm water the salmon numbers in the bay are way down, but still having a great time
