Willard Trolling? - fly_fishing_nut - 05-30-2019 Anyone having any success trolling for wipers yet? I have been trying about once a week since early April and haven’t caught a wiper yet. Looking for some advice if anyone is having any luck. [signature] Re: [fly_fishing_nut] Willard Trolling? - muirco - 05-30-2019 Cranks are working. The key is to keep trolling and moving until you find them. They move every day it seems like. [signature] Re: [muirco] Willard Trolling? - fly_fishing_nut - 05-30-2019 What speed? Any particular color? Thanks! Also flicker shad black and silver #5 trolled around 2mph and slower in open water.12-18 feet of water, 100ft back. The key is finding them and then staying on them. They do move every day but once you catch one keep trolling through that area and mark each fish you catch. you can get a good idea of which direction there moving. They tend to be shallower than most people think. I do my best catching in 8-10 feet of water. Trolling right on the north and west dike can be very productive. My inside rod lure is bouncing of the rocks once in awhile. that is the key to catching them close to the dike and your only out close to 50 feet behind the boat. Just out past the prop wash. I use the lip less cranks for that method. I think the boat passing scares the small fish out of the rocks and the wipers coming in after the boat passes to attack them. These type of things have worked in the past for me. good luck. fnf[cool] [signature] Re: [fishinfool] Willard Trolling? - fly_fishing_nut - 05-30-2019 Really great info! Thanks! Have you done well recently? Any particular time of day? [signature] |
