Cutthroat or Rainbow - T-DOG91 - 01-15-2019 While fishing the Green River last week I pulled in this trout, assumed to be a rainbow, until I put the video in slow motion. It’s spots and lack of pink lateral stripe make it look like a cutthroat. Especially if you look at the picture of the rainbow trout caught earlier in the day. What does everyone think? Link to the video is below if you want a better look. https://youtu.be/wQoFjt6FrbI Rainbow at 01:50 Possible Cutthroat at 04:12 [signature] Re: [T-DOG91] Cutthroat or Rainbow - fish_fear_me2 - 01-15-2019 Looked like a rainbow to me. Oh, wait. That means it's a rainbow. OK -- then because of the spots on the head. Oh, wait. That means it's a rainbow. Then because of the pink stripe down the side. Oh, wait... Because cuttbows are magical. That fish is most likely not a wild fish at all. So, that eliminates the cuttbow thought. [signature] Re: [Fishrmn] Cutthroat or Rainbow - wormandbobber - 01-17-2019 In Utah, not very often. We have some hybridization in some streams, and I know Kolob Reservoir has some hybridization. But, most of our reservoirs don't get any natural reproduction. [signature] Re: [wormandbobber] Cutthroat or Rainbow - RockyRaab - 01-17-2019 I think I saw it dripping. Obviously a rainthroat. [signature] Re: [RockyRaab] Cutthroat or Rainbow - richyd4u - 01-18-2019 nice little bow...great colors. [signature] Re: [T-DOG91] Cutthroat or Rainbow - Jedidiah - 01-18-2019 That's a rainbow with a preference for New Zealand mudsnails. Dark colored rainbows have literally always had those snails in their stomach whenever I've seen them. [signature] |
