River Currents and Winds - BURLEY - 03-03-2018

Last year I began sturgeon fishing on the Snake River. To stabilize the boat from swinging with cross current winds or up current winds, I would put out an anchor off the stern. While holding the boat well, it created an obstacle for both the fishing lines and when landing fish. Hooks getting in anchor line or fish crossing over and under is always a problem. I would have to haul it in or toss the anchor line overboard with a float before landing a fish. This year I intend to try using a sea-anchor (drift sock) off the stern to hold the boat steady. I have a 30" drift sock and have experimented with it by hanging it from a bridge in a heavy current. It seems to work well without rotating, and is easy and quick to retrieve.
Has anyone tried such a idea while river fishing?

All comments welcome. Hue

I have not done so, but have seen videos and read some about people using anchors and drift socks simultaneously to stop swaying in a river. Anchor of the bow and one drift sock off of each corner of the stern.
