Outboard repair or advice? - fishnotphish - 05-04-2017 Well, as the season approaches, I'm reminded that I need to do something with my 1979 Evinrude 70 HP. It starts right up and runs pretty decent -- right up until I turn it off. Then it usually won't start for 30-45 minutes despite cranking away. It acts like there isn't even spark, but I've tested, and there is... and then the cycle repeats. I've tuned it up using my limited mechanical skillz but I'm at a total loss here. I've been pricing some newer motors (used), but they seem to be few and far between. It's to the point where I started seriously looking at new motors, but given their price I figured it's worth taking a real stab at getting this beast figured out. So. Any suggestions for troubleshooting my motor? Could anyone recommend a good outboard mechanic, preferably in the southern end of the SL valley? (although at this point ANYWHERE would be fine). Thanks all. Looking forward to some good fishing this year! Send a PM: Geezer-Tom http://www.bigfishtackle.com/cgi-bin/community/community.cgi?do=user_page;pg=user_profile_view.html;username=GEEZER or: mtncat1-Rich http://www.bigfishtackle.com/cgi-bin/community/community.cgi?do=user_page;pg=user_profile_view.html;username=mtncat1 Both do good work but Geezer likes the older motors, both have worked on motors I have owned. Good luck [signature] |
