One thing that will help understand proportions is to buy (ask Gramps, we're easy) some 100 pack hackles. They are presized. I would suggest just one pack of size 18 or 20 Dun. Use them for Blue Wings. You will get a sense of hackle length. If you want to become an awesome tier, practice tying a Muddler Minnow. If you can tie that very well, you can tie anything. But like Clarkie said... it's about the fisheys. [signature] Re: [mischievous] Like my flys? - LOVBASS117 - 02-15-2013 [signature] Re: [LOVBASS117] Like my flys? - LOVBASS117 - 02-15-2013 Setup! [signature] Re: [LOVBASS117] Like my flys? - gstott - 02-19-2013 Those look really good, especially for someone new to the craft. I think those scud are really going to do well for you. I would tie some grey ones too if I were you. Or scud brown is another favorite color. Keep it up, you're doing great. [signature] Re: [gstott] Like my flys? - LOVBASS117 - 02-19-2013 Thanks! Also, watch out for grey drakes. They're a bit smaller and grey in color, but when they're coming off, the fish can really key in on them.
