Re: [Kelkay] Tying anyone? - macfly55 - 09-14-2010 when you do get out on the water and are able to use your "creations" you have to let us know how it went... with pictures of coure.. :-) MacFly [cool] [signature] Re: [macfly55] Tying anyone? - Kelkay - 09-14-2010 Alrighty, will do. [signature] Re: [flygoddess] Tying anyone? - LeGrand - 12-13-2010 Beautiful flies and patterns. I just started a week ago in fly-tying. For now limited material for the Woolly Burger. Going to join a swap and prepared some flexible tube variety. [signature] Re: [LeGrand] Tying anyone? - flygoddess - 12-13-2010 I have been toying the idea for tube flies. [signature] Re: [flygoddess] Tying anyone? - macfly55 - 12-13-2010 [cool]whats the idea??? :-) MacFly [signature] Re: [macfly55] Tying anyone? - flygoddess - 12-13-2010 Of trying to make them. I am not sure what tubes and accessories to get...yet[ ![]() [signature] Re: [flygoddess] Tying anyone? - macfly55 - 12-13-2010 you have done tubes before correct..or am I mistaking one kind of fly for another?? MacFly [signature] Re: [macfly55] Tying anyone? - flygoddess - 12-13-2010 I have never tied tube flies. They are flies tied on a tube with a special jig for your vise. No hook, just a tube. You slide the tube on then tie what ever hook you want to the tippet. The fly will slide by hand, but not when stripping. Does that make sense? One hook and a bunch different flies. [signature] Re: [flygoddess] Tying anyone? - macfly55 - 12-13-2010 Ahhhh then it was my misunderstanding... I thought tube flies were ones tied with a tube material with hooks.. and the material was shaped to the tyers need.. for example .. the minnow looking flies you sent me last summer I think... similar to this one... [ ![]() MacFly [cool] [signature] Re: [macfly55] Tying anyone? - flygoddess - 12-14-2010 Sorry, don't know how I missed posting it: http://www.amazon.com/Tube-Flies-Tying-Fishing-Historical/dp/1571880364 It will be awhile before I make them...I want to learn all I can about them first. Advantage.....being able to use one fly but change out hooks and smaller. Picture a woolly bugger with one little hook at the end of the tail. No more nibbling but rather hook setting. [signature] Re: [flygoddess] Tying anyone? - macfly55 - 12-14-2010 are they generally fished with hooks smaller than what would normally be used for a fly that size?? if that is the case I can see how the hook would not neccessarily get stuck in the tube.... but would make changing the hook and keeping the same pattern easier.. :-) MacFly [cool] [signature] Re: [flygoddess] Tying anyone? - CoyoteSpinner - 12-14-2010 Those all look great. And I think the links to photo bucket are very welcome. Easy to navigate too. Nice collections - both of you! Shows some serious attention to detail. Joni - I love your presentation too. Makes 'em look alive sitting along those logs. I've just started dabbling with some lure making - spinners, worm harness rigs. Goofing around with some extra paint to add some pizazz. I'd be curious to know where you get your supplies - especially KelKay with all the spinner parts? I have a wicked catalog (somewhere) with fly/lure parts I didn't even know existed! I have a box of fluffy bits from my dad, but none of the tools. Saw a collection on KSL, and another set of How-To books. I think I know what the Coyote is getting for Xmas. I think I need to get a magnifying/lamp so I can see what the heck I'm doing though! Or it's time for new glasses - bifocals?!?! Re: [CoyoteSpinner] Tying anyone? - flygoddess - 12-14-2010 Blue Fox has nothing over on you. MacFly [cool] [signature] Re: [flygoddess] Tying anyone? - macfly55 - 12-15-2010 ok...now you done did it...LOL... I looked at the links referenced and Im like wow... that looks so easy.. and versatile... which makes start thinking... ahhhhhh theres the next step... LOL...
