It does set up quick. I even mounted some old skis under it so it pulls a bit easier. Of course, I only use it three or four times a year as my smaller lighter shack is preferable due to the weight.

Re: [BEARCLAW] Burbot Shack - Coldfooter - 09-12-2007

Yeah I'm thinking ski's and their supports would beef up the floor yet allow plenty of room for a couple good size openings. I think it could be down size it for single person use and eliminate a 3x3' area of the flooring to provide easy access to the ice with only minor changes in the basic design.

Here is another ice house for you Ash, might as well go in style[Wink].
If these pictures are too big I'll have to resize them later, time to go to work[unsure]

I did a drive by today to Rock Springs and that Green river looked a long way from freezing . Dang !! [Tongue] Might be a tad bit to early for ice talk . But that shanty with Direct TV is tempting . Still need a truck to pull that Hotel .

Good on all of you to give Ash all of these ideas, but the truth of the matter is it will probably be his old man as in me doing the construction work. It has already been mentioned he may need some help. But he very kindly told me i could go fishing with him,but im like you Don you aint getting my A$$ on no 2inches of ice

Re: [mackminer] Burbot Shack - Coldfooter - 09-13-2007

What ol' buddy, strolling on ice that heaves and falls under your feet like walking on 1/2" ply supported between two saw horses really dont appeal to you? Just remember to put Jeff on point and keep yelling to him, "How thick is the ice!??". When he yells back, "bout 1 3/4" ,,BACK TRACK!![Wink] Seriously tho',, I've too have probably given up the saintly walking upon the hard top unless it 3+ inches of solid and clear.
Good on ya for getting in on the build.. We'll probably put a couple of those mouse traps together on this end too and doing a bit of modification to better suit our needs.

Re: [fishley] Burbot Shack - utwalleye - 09-13-2007

I with Don on this one, 3 in. +. I've had the poop scared out of me at rock port a few years ago. Ken knows all about it, he was there also. 2in. of ice and doing just fine, until this other guy came walking over to us. he got with in 5 feet of us and CRACK right at his foot, the whole place shook. he stopped and went back.
we left a little bit after that. later chuck

One thing I have learned is not to have company around when fishing thin ice . [Tongue]

Re: [CROSSINEYES] Burbot Shack - Bigfishrule - 09-16-2007

Ken,
those insane guys in that ramcharger was me and my uncle. As long as u dont go over the pressure ridgethat runs from the knolls to haws point your ok if the ice is a foot thick and the weather has been extremly cold like it was that year. the winters we have had the last few years have had very few long cold stretches too them. i drove that old ram charger out there to that spot for about 5 years. always only when it had been good and cold for the week prior to going. that is on nice honey hole out there. and if you dont have a sled quite a walk.
